Every week we are bringing you the latest pub and bars openings from around the UK. If you see somewhere you like, give it a follow and you can receive news, offers and events from them. Who doesn’t want an excuse to pop in for a pint?

The Waiting Room, Durham

Durham Train Station has been given a new lease of life thanks to this lovely little alehouse on Platform 2. The Waiting Room is set in…you guessed it, a former waiting room! Dating back to 1872, the restored decor boasts original Victorian fireplaces which were previously hidden behind boarding. The bar serves a selection of real ales, cider, perry, and distilled gins – so those train delays won’t be quite as disappointing as they used to be.

The Greyhound, Sydenham

It’s always sad when a pub closes down, so we do love a good comeback story – and they don’t get much better than this! Following a long period of closure, the pub was illegally  bulldozed back in 2012, causing Lewisham Council to take the developers responsible to court. But after sustained pressure from local campaigners, The Greyhound is open once again, 10 years after shutting (and rebuilding) its doors, offering a place to enjoy, drink and dine for the Sydenham community. Cheers to that!

The Beech House, Amersham

This brand new bar and restaurant will undoubtedly prove a big hit when the warm weather arrives in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. The Beech House offers an open-air terrace with al fresco-style seating in front of the glass-fronted bar area. Inside there is industrial style decor with several areas for diners and drinkers to enjoy, some open and some a little more private. There is a Mediterranean inspired menu and a wide-selection of drinks ranging from cocktails to cask ales. The perfect summer venue!

The Snug, Carnforth

This tiny platform pub at Carnforth Station, Lancashire, has been given a big make-over after suffering leaks which caused rotten floors and damp walls. The popular local which won CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2013 and featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, is now back and open for business. Don’t be fooled by the 330ft square ft structure, there is plenty of choice when it comes to the drinks selection. The bar stocks a number of locally sourced beers, a selection of ciders and more than 20 kinds of gin!

Jam & Rye, Highbury, London

Hidden away in the basement of the Famous Cock pub in Islington is this 1920’s themed jazz and cocktail bar. Jam & Rye opened in February following a £600,000 refurbishment to the premises. The bars parent company Stonegate Pub Company describes the venue as. “A posh-meets-creative vibe, the sounds of local jazz musicians paired with table-served exquisite cocktails, is a likely destination for the area’s celebs to escape from 5pm every day, and all day on what’s down to be some memorable Sundays.”

The Bell on the Green, Devizes

The opening of this Wiltshire venue on Thursday evening, saw a traditional pub transformed into a modern sports bar after receiving a £150,000 revamp. Seven TV screens, two pool tables and a host of local teams, including darts and skittles, will no doubt make The Bell on the Green the go-to destination for sports fans in Devizes. There is also an updated menu offering pizzas (made in the kitchen’s brand new pizza oven), burgers and hotdogs – proper game-day food!

The Wellington Ale House, Birmingham

Formerly the Duke of Wellington, one of the oldest pubs in Lichfield has re-opened with a new look and a new name. Now The Wellington Ale House, the pub is once again open to the public following a £130,000 refurbishment programme. It boasts a fabulous range of food, real ales and an extensive beer garden with decking. Although looking thoroughly modern these days, the building actually dates back to 1818 – hence the name.

Pessimist Gin & Wine Bar, Lincoln

What could possibly be better than a selection of 150 gins? If you answered ‘nothing’ then we have something that is going to make you very happy! The Pessimist is now open for business in a former coffee warehouse with decor that reflects the building’s former industrial use. And if the extensive array of gins wasn’t enough to tempt you, there’s also some home-cooked food and dozens of wine choices thrown in for good measure. What’s not to love?

Olivello Ristorante & Harry’s Bar, Linthorpe

This Italian restaurant and cocktail bar took its name from the famous Lake Como drinking spot – a favourite of George Clooney. They even received a message from their namesake to wish them well and let them know they had told their celebrity regular all about the opening. Which will of course come in handy for his next trip to Middlesbrough. Make sure you try the cocktail tree, George!

Mixers Bar, Carlisle

Carlisle’s newest nightlife spot is hoping to bring a bit of variety to the town with its live music acts, DJ’s and wide-ranging bar offerings. Despite being brand new and only open 2 days a week, the bar has already hosted Adele and Robbie William’s tributes and a resident house DJ. And in keeping up the momentum, tomorrow night will see the venue welcome a Lady Gaga act.

White Bear, Barrowford

Following a £150,000 refurbishment, the historic Grade II-listed White Bear has re-opened (an event they used to raise money for charity, might I add). As well as wood-flooring, an improved bar (with added gin shelf), and new furniture, the 400 year old pub has also been kitted out with Burnley FC memorabilia and will see BT & Sky Sports projected around the building – just in time for the big summer of sport!

The Blue Arrow, Glasgow

If you’re a fan of La La Land, this could be the perfect place for you! The Blue Arrow, Glasgow’s first dedicated jazz club, will be opening its doors to the public this weekend on Sunday 18th February. With exclusive acts and events, the owners are hoping to not only pay homage to performers of the past who have ‘shaped the scene’, but also nurture the talents of a new generation of jazz performers.

Open For Business!

Reports of increases in pub and bar closures over the past few years haven’t been good news for anyone. These social hubs are a focal point of our society and do a great service to their communities. Not to mention, they’re fun!

The main thing we can do to help is make sure we support them, and supporting them means using them! So every week we are going to focus on the positives and bring you the latest pub and bars openings from around the UK. If you see somewhere you like, give it a follow and you can receive news, offers and events from them. Who doesn’t want an excuse to pop in for a pint?

A lovely story from Bury St Edmunds as The One Bull has re-opened having been forced to close last year after a fire in a neighbouring shop damaged the pub. And you’ll no doubt find a delicious dish to compliment your pint with The Bull’s entirely homemade menu.
